Walter Crane was an English artist and book illustrator born in Liverpool on 15th August 1845. He is considered to be among the most prolific and most influential children’s book creator of his generation, and along with Randolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway, one of the strongest contributors to the child’s nursery motif that the genre of English children’s illustrated literature would exhibit in its developmental period in the latter 19th century. Crane’s work featured some of the more colorful and detailed beginnings of the child-in-the-garden motifs that would characterize many nursery rhymes and children’s stories for years to come. Some of the books contained within this collection are extremely hard-to-find and will provide a valuable library of reference material and wonderful illustrations. Overall, an absolute must for anyone with an interest in Walter Crane and the illustration of children’s literature. The full list of titles included speaks for itself….
